Any2Easy

Introducing Any2Easy

Bob Evans from the Fiber Internet Center built the Any2 Easy platform, which is essentially a route server.  The intent of Any2Easy is to give Any2 members a single point where they can peer with many networks, thus reducing their need to establish numerous individual peering relationships. Bob and the Fiber Internet Center continue to act as administrators and technical support for Any2Easy

Common routing and peering issues faced by ISPs and CDNS:

  • Coordinating “open peering” relationships takes time and effort on both sides

  • Larger providers don’t want to take the time to peer with smaller networks

  • Yet Small Networks are starting up with Big Content and ASP Services

  • More peering sessions often means more router requirements

  • Peering with many is usually practical for larger ISP’s and service providers that have the human and hardware resources

Here are the objectives for Any2 Easy:

  • Available to any sized network

  • Requires only a single BGP session (backup Secondary session available on Any2Easy)

  • Save Money - Reduces gear and human resource requirements

  • Save time - New peer route messages immediately distributed to you via an Any2Easy BGP session

  • 2Easy to manage peers - Now write route maps and filters for a single BGP session

Please Select a Peering Configuration:

"Allow All" Is the Default. It will make it easy for you to Open Peer. It's the easiest of all BGP Peering Configurations. There is no need to configure route-maps with communities, if you wish to peer with everyone on the Any2Easy route Servers. At any time, you can always configure route-maps to prevent a peer from receiving your routes by sending communities format 19996:ASnumber to deny. "Deny All" will fit a few peer's requirements. When using Deny All send the community format 19996:ASnumber to allow a network to "receive your routes"....You will receive all the routes "from" peers that use the Allow All so that they are one-hop from your network , but "to" your network they must use their transit provider to reach you...Unless, you send the community to allow them to get your routes.

LA Pacific Time Monday - Friday the FiberNOC will always respond within 24 hours for new Any2Route Server Peering Sessions. Saturday & Sunday you may find it possible to start new session requests as the FiberNOC is 24 hours.

Route Servers:
AS19996 @ 206.223.143.252 is in San Jose/San Francisco Market
AS19996 @ 206.223.143.253 is in Los Angeles/ Southern Cal Market

Tip 1
You will need this line in a Cisco config... it is a Global Setting...not a neighbor config line. Not needed on Extreme Networks - don't know about Juniper or Foundry just yet. This is due to the fact that a route server doesn't send itself (its AS and IP you peer with in the next hop - it sends you the AS and IP of the peer's next hop). Without it, Cisco switches or routers will give you an error and drop the session immediately after it is established.

no bgp enforce-first-as

Example from enable command line:

configure terminal
router bgp "your AS"
no bgp enforce-first-as
write

After that line is added in your Cisco, it's just a plain old everyday BGP neighbor config.

Tip 2
Also you can not use an Any2Easy router server as a default router address of any kind...but you know that. ;-)
