Any2 Introduction
"An Internet exchange point (IX or IXP) is a physical infrastructure that allows different Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to exchange Internet traffic between their networks (autonomous systems) by means of mutual peering agreements, which allow traffic to be exchanged without cost." (WikiPedia)
This is really the essence of why CRG West decided to build an exchange point within One Wilshire, connect the Meet-Me-Room at Market Post Tower, and offer the utility to our valued tenants. One Wilshire is a leader in telecommunications interconnection - just as similar facilities in New York and London. Given the high density of both established and emerging network service providers, including Internet and VoIP, we made a decision to help facilitate the success of emerging companies and established companies by offering a platform that would allow a low cost, high performance packet exchange as a utility within our high density communications facilities.
Communications relationships are no longer determined by bi-lateral telephone settlement agreements, half circuits, or low voltage copper pairs delivered to offices and residence - we now live in a broadband world with communications being delivered through DSL, CATV, personal satellite, and wireless. New models of communications demand new models of infrastructure. As younger companies continue to innovate, and establish their businesses within facilities such as One Wilshire and Market Post Tower, carrier hotels and landlords will be in a position to have a tremendous positive impact on the efforts of those emerging companies.
While an Internet or VoIP exchange will certainly not be the determining factor on a young company's success or failure, it may have the positive effect of helping reduce some operating costs, enable relationships that would be impossible without the exchange, as well as potentially set the field for further innovation based on availability of an expanded peer, customer, and supplier community.
In addition, as seen with major natural
disasters such as the catastrophic undersea earthquake that severed
and severely damaged submarine fiber optic cables in
Asia (December 2006), and disasters disrupting other
locations around the world, additional resiliency is needed in the
global communications infrastructure.
Any2 is a layer 2 physical network facility operated by CRG West with the purpose to facilitate exchange of Internet traffic between Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Voice over IP providers. It is a place for network providers to interconnect and exchange IP traffic at a local or international level. To facilitate access to the 'global Internet,' a network, VoIP, or Internet Service Provider (ISP) must, of course, have connectivity to the global Internet itself and this connection is totally independent of the connection made with the Any2
Exchange.
The Any
2
Exchange is a classic, open Internet peering point. We provide a high performance switch, assigning participants an ARIN issued non-routable exchange IP address. After receiving your request or order to participate in the Any
2
Exchange, CRG West will establish a connection (FastE, GigE, or 10GigE) from your presence point to the Any
2
Exchange.
Once connected you peer with the Any
2
Exchange, and then you can establish - without interference from CRG West - a BGP-4 peering session with any other connected participating network.
Peering relationships are a private matter between participating Any
2
members. We'll make the connection, give you access to a directory of participating members, and then you are free to establish relationships on your own.
Happy Peering
